Katie Couric revisited the time when her late husband, Jay Monahan, was still battling cancer and shared the thing she would have done differently.

Monahan died of cancer in 1998. It has been over two decades since he passed away, but Couric is still emotional when she remembers him and his battle with cancer. She weighed in on his health struggles and death and shared the one thing she regretted as she looked back when Monahan was still alive.

"I was so worried about letting go of hope because I didn't want Jay to spend whatever time he had left just waiting to die," the former "Today" co-host told People while sharing about her upcoming book "Going There." "I think it takes extraordinary courage to be able to face death, and I think I was too scared, honestly."

She thoroughly discussed the matter in her upcoming tome writing, "I did everything I could to keep Jay alive. Looking back, I wish I had done a better job helping him die," she wrote, according to People.

Couric added that when she wrote the memoir, it helped her remember their time together and the early days of their courtship. She remembered Monahan as the "handsome, young, mischievous" man she met on the night of January at a party in northern Virginia. The thought of her late husband and how things between them unfolded brought sheer joy to Couric. She also shared how he got her attention for several reasons.

"He always made me feel safe, whether he was guiding me on the dance floor or explaining what was happening if there was turbulence on the airplane," Couric added. "Because he'd gone to flight school, he'd be like, 'Right now the flaps are doing this.' And he was funny."

Couric married her second husband, John Molner, in 2014.

The former TV anchor shared a lot of things in her book, including the time she met Prince Harry in Brazil in 2012. According to her, the Duke of Sussex was in his "wild-oats sowing phase" at the time.

She also shared more details about her reaction to her former "Today" co-host Matt Lauer's sexual misconduct. Couric said Lauer's behavior was "callous" and "grossly inappropriate." She admitted that she no longer talks to Lauer.

"Going There" will be released on Oct. 26.
