Katie Holmes Returns As Jackie Kennedy In Miniseries Sequel 'After Camelot'
Katie Holmes will be donning Jackie O’s pillbox hat once again. The actress has signed on to reprise her role as the former first lady in “The Kennedys: After Camelot,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“Katie elegantly portrayed Jackie Kennedy in the first miniseries and now will continue the role as Jackie grows into the Jackie O that the world knows best,” Stan E. Hubbard, CEO of ReelzChannel, said in a statement. "Katie is brave, committed and perfect for this role. She is a strong, talented woman who understands how special and respected Jackie Kennedy, and then Jackie Onassis was, as an international icon."
The Reelz miniseries is a sequel to one the network aired in 2011, “The Kennedys.” It received 10 Emmy nominations including one win for lead actor Barry Pepper. The miniseries was also an audience favorite. A record 1.9 million viewers watched the series in April 2011. The latest installment was first announced by Reelz in November 2012.
Production for “The Kennedys: After Camelot” is set to begin in 2015 in Canada with an expected premiere date in 2016. Holmes will be directing one of the four episodes in the miniseries. Jon Cassar, who directed all eight episodes of “The Kennedys,” will direct the remaining three episodes in the sequel.
The miniseries is based on J. Randy Taraborrelli’s book “After Camelot: A Personal History of the Kennedy Family 1968 to the Present” which discusses Jacqueline Kennedy’s emotional struggles after her husband’s murder and her eventual marriage to Aristotle Onassis, the struggles her children faced as they grew older and the sudden death of JFK Jr.
