Katy Perry Back to Host ‘SNL’ with Guest Robyn
By the time anyone bothered to look at the press release NBC put out Monday confirming Katy Perry's guest spot on Saturday Night Live Dec. 10 with musical guest Robyn, a tweet from the California Gurls singer about her not-ready-for-prime-time gig had gotten around pretty quickly.
I'm SO excited 2 announce I'll be HOSTING Saturday Night Live Dec. 10! tweeted Perry, who's hosting the show a week after Boardwalk Empire actor Steve Buscemi.
Although it'll be Perry's first time hosting, she made a splash when she was a musical guest on SNL last year by taking part in a comedy routine while wearing the most revealing T-shirt this side of a wardrobe malfunction. The fact that it had Elmo on it probably had something to do with a number she sang on Sesame Street with the playful puppet, which stirred up controversy when Sesame Workshop took issue with how much skin Perry was willing to bare in front of children.
We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or caregiver, Sesame Workshop said in a statement NPR quoted in September 2010. In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of 'Sesame Street,' which is aimed at preschoolers.
Perry, who got a Special Achievement Award Sunday at the American Music Awards for the five No. 1 hits that came out of 2010's Teenage Dream, insisted that although she's lugging around a couple of extra pounds, she and husband Russell Brand aren't expecting a baby just yet. Actually, ninemsn reported that Perry attributed her belly to all that New York City pizza she's eating.
