Katy Perry has landed herself in a legal soup for dressing up as Hilary Clinton on Halloween three years ago.

According to Cosmopolitan, in 2016, the 35-year-old musician dressed up as the former First Lady of the U.S. for a Halloween party and shared a paparazzi photo of her in the costume on her Instagram profile. Now, exactly three years later, the company that owns the rights for that particular picture is suing Perry for a whopping amount of $150,000.

The lawsuit, which was filed on Oct. 29, claimed that the “Wide Awake” hitmaker violated federal law by sharing that photo on social media. The organization named Backgrid also stated that they contacted Perry’s representatives many times since 2017 and told them about the “infringement” multiple times.

But they failed to pay the money to the agency to license the snap.

In the snap, the “Chained To The Rhythm” singer can be seen wearing a lot of prosthetics to look like the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee. Meanwhile, her fiancé Orlando Bloom was dressed up as Donald Trump, the current president of the U.S.

The pop icon wore a red pantsuit similar to the one Clinton wore during the first presidential debate in 2016. She donned a blonde wig to complete the look.

Perry is not the first celebrity to run into trouble over the pictures taken by the paparazzi. Last month, Gigi Hadid faced a similar kind of situation when she posted a photo of her ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik in one of her Instagram stories.

According to Page Six, Hadid was sued for $150,000 by a photographer named Robert O’Neill, who claimed to have the rights for that particular snap. The supermodel blasted the photographer on social media and the lawsuit was eventually thrown out.

Even Jennifer Lopez faced a lawsuit earlier this month for copyright infringement by a photo agency regarding a picture of herself she shared on Instagram in 2017.

As per People, Splash News and Picture Agency are suing the singer-actress for $150K and claiming that they own the photo and are the exclusive copyright holders of the photo that she posted on the photo-sharing platform.
