Katy Perry Explains Why She Does Not Have A Full-Time Nanny
Katy Perry may be juggling many roles but being a mom comes first.
During her appearance on Monday's episode of "SmartLess" podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, the 37-year-old "California Girls" singer revealed the reason why she does not have a full-time nanny.
"I am working a lot and I've always worked a lot. I'm kind of a matriarchal figure," Perry said, adding, "I have a wonderful nanny, but I don't have a full-time nanny because I feel like if I had a full-time nanny then I would never be able to know how to care for my daughter like I'm meant to."
"And so therefore, any day I get off, I'm just in mom mode. Doesn't matter if I've had a show that goes to 11 p.m. the night before, I'm waking up at six o'clock and we're going to go and do breakfast and yes, I have the no sleep shakes," she further said.
The "Last Friday Night" artist said she is "super blessed" and grateful to have some help and added, "But I also want to participate."
Perry and her husband Orlando Bloom announced the birth of their daughter Daisy Dove in August 2020 through the Instagram page of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), where they are both serving as Goodwill Ambassadors.
"We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter," the new parents said at the time.
Perry, who sits as an "American Idol" judge alongside her Las Vegas shows, admitted that she feels bad when she misses important moments in her daughter's life.
"She's 2, so she's at that point where it's like she's saying new words every day and the other day she was just saying some words that I didn't teach her and I was like, 'D--- it. That doesn't feel good,'" she said in the podcast.
Perry also hailed Bloom's parenting skills and said, "Dad is the best."
In 2021, Perry opened up about how motherhood changed her.
"I never really truly knew about unconditional love. Obviously, my mother has that for me, but I didn't really experience it in first-person until I had my child," she told Variety.
