Is popular pop icon Lady Gaga blown away by Katy Perry storm? Well, the list of 2011 MTV Video Music Awards nominees does indicate something like that. With nine nominations for the 28th edition of the MTV Video Music Awards, pop singer Katy is leading the chart.
Katy, 26, is followed by Adele and Kanye West with seven nominations each. Next on the list is Bruno Mars with four nods followed by Beyonce', Eminem, Lady Gaga, 30 Seconds to Mars and Nicki Minaj having three nods each.
The last 12 months were proved to be extraordinary for Katy with hits like California Gurls, Teenage Dream and Firework.
Katy's explosive clip Firework got nominated for both Video of the Year and Best Female Video. Her Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) was nominated for Best Pop Video, while Teenage Dream is vying for Best Cinematography. The futuristic E.T. was nominated for Best Special Effects and Best Collaboration.
Lady Gaga, who won eight prizes at last year's MTV Video Music Awards, including video of the year for Bad Romance, was sidelined in the 2011 nominations. Gaga is up for Best Female Video (Born This Way) and Choreography (Judas) and Art Direction (Judas).
Another longtime favorite pop princess Britney Spears' Till the World End is battling for the Best Pop and Best Coreography.
Justin Bieber's video for U Smile is nominated for Best Male Video.
