Katy Perry’s Engagement Ring Has A Surprising Link To Princess Diana
Katy Perry just got engaged to Orlando Bloom. The actor gave the award-winning singer a stunning and unique flower-shaped ring on Valentine’s Day.
Stephen Feuerman of NYC jeweler Stephen Russell, which specializes in period jewelry, said that the unique design of the ring came from around the 1900s, but it resurged in popularity after Prince Charles proposed to Princess Diana with a sapphire cluster ring with surrounding diamonds in 1981.
“Lady Di really brought them back into fashion when Charles gave her one,” he told Harper’s Bazaar.
Prince William also used the same ring to propose to Kate Middleton in 2010.
According to Feuerman, the shank or the band of Perry’s ring appears to be yellow gold. And although the center stone of the ring remains unknown, if it is a pink diamond, it would be extremely rare. The expert said that it is also possible that the ring is a period piece and is not brand new.
Perry’s ring also has some similarities with Princess Eugenie’s engagement ring, which featured a cluster design and a padparadscha sapphire in the center. Coincidentally, it is nearly identical to Sarah Ferguson’s pink engagement ring from Prince Andrew.
“This design often lends itself to colored stones like rubies and sapphires,” Feuerman said.
According to the publication, after Perry posted a photo of the ring on Instagram, some publications speculated that the center stone could be a ruby, a pink diamond, or a pink sapphire. Kathryn Money of Brilliant Earth told Town & Country that the ring could cost between $25,000 and $50,000 if the stone is ruby.
Andrew Brown, the president of WP Diamonds, told E! News that the ring could be worth $5 million. As of late, the exact price of the ring remains unconfirmed. Perry and Bloom’s wedding date, location, and other details regarding their upcoming union are still being kept under wraps as well.
