Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock are divorcing after nearly seven years of marriage.

Clarkson and Blackstock are heading to splitsville after the singer filed for divorce on June 4 in L.A. County Superior Court, TMZ reported. The filing came a little over a month after they put their L.A. home on the market for $10 million. The exes share two children, River Rose, 5, and Remington, 4.

TMZ obtained a copy of the legal documents in which Clarkson listed their date of separation as “TBD.” She also stated that she wants joint custody over their two kids and to have their prenup enforced.

The “American Idol” winner cited irreconcilable difference as the reason for their divorce. She also asked the court to terminate the ability to award spousal support to Blackstock and restore her last name legally to Clarkson since she previously took her husband’s last name, Entertainment Tonight reported.

Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce came as a big surprise to many because they did not show any signs of marital issues. In April, the talent manager even wished the TV show host a happy birthday.

“Happy birthday, baby. I love you more than you’ll ever know,” Blackstock said.

“Just now seeing this and I am bawling! They’re all so cute!” Clarkson wrote after sharing the clip on Twitter. “I’ve had a bit of a rough week and this just turned it around.”

Clarkson first met Blackstock in 2006, but he was married at the time. She confessed that she “felt something” and didn’t make any move due to his marital status. They met again six years later after his divorce from Melissa Ashworth.

In an interview in 2017, Clarkson revealed that she thought she was asexual until she met Blackstock.

“This isn't a downer to anybody I dated before him, but I'm just going to be real: I never felt like, honesty, sexually attracted to anybody before him,” Clarkson said.

“And I'm not downing my exes. You know, everybody's different. But there was something about him.”

Clarkson has remained independent even after marrying Blackstock. In fact, she refused to consider them as each other’s “other half” because for her, each of them is a “whole.”

“Brandon is not my other half. He's a whole and I'm a whole,” Clarkson said. “I've never believed in someone taking care of me, and that's probably because I grew up poor and without a lot of family stability.”
