ABC will be joining the crowded scene of reality singing competitions with a new show, named Duets. The show will feature former American Idol contestant Kelly Clarkson, award-winning singer Lionel Richie, country star Jennifer Nettles and R&B artist Robin Thicke. Duets is scheduled to air on television in the summer, reported The Washington Post. The four singers will roam the country, each handpicking two aspiring reality show stars, and will take turns at being a potential contestant's duet partner each week.

The concept of 'Duets' is so fresh because mentoring is active and participatory, Nettles said in a statement. Most of my greatest learning was from singing and playing with other performers throughout my life and career.

Though only one duet will be crowned winner, with the contestant getting a recording contract, the mentors will hone the contestants' musical skills each week by performing with them onstage in front of a live studio audience, instead of just watching from a distance.

They don't audition like a normal process, Clarkson told ABC in a press release, according to Entertainment Weekly. We get to collaborate with the artists that we choose. We get to go find the talent we really believe in.
