Kendall Jenner vs. Kim Kardashian: Who’s 'Allowed' To Talk About Bruce's Rumored Transition Into Womanhood?
Is there a double standard here? Kendall Jenner all but confirmed rumors that her father, Bruce Jenner, is embarking on a journey to become a woman, but when half sister Kim Kardashian mentioned it in a January interview with "Entertainment Tonight" she reportedly received major flak from former stepbrother Brody Jenner.
Of course, there is a major difference between Kendall and Kim when it comes to Bruce: The Olympian is Kendall’s biological father but is legally and biologically nothing to Kim since their mother, Kris Jenner, divorced Bruce. The Kardashian siblings say Bruce remains an important part of their lives, but when it comes to speaking about his struggle with his gender identity, the line seems to be drawn.
Kendall seemed to confirm her father's planned transition during an interview with Us Weekly. “He's a wonderful man. And just because he's changing shoes now, so to speak, doesn't make him less wonderful. I will always love my dad, whether he's a man or a woman,” the 19-year-old, 5-foot-10 stunner said. "I love my dad. He's always been there for me and my sisters."
Even though Bruce has been there for Kendall's sisters for nearly 15 years, it apparently doesn’t give them the right to be the first ones to address his journey. Kim was slammed after she mentioned it, even though she simply said it was his to talk about.
"He's our dad so we support him no matter what, and I think when the time is right, he'll talk about whatever he wants to talk about. I just think it's his story to talk about, not really mine,” Kim told "Entertainment Tonight" in January, after In Touch Weekly Photoshopped a picture of Bruce in makeup and women’s clothing. "Of course we support Bruce 100 percent."
Even though Kim didn’t give anything away, Jenner’s son Brody, 34, didn’t want his former stepsister to mention it to the media -- at all. "He wishes Kim wouldn't have said anything other than that Bruce is doing great," a source told Radar Online. "This is a very sensitive time for Bruce and everyone involved, so Brody would prefer that the family not make any public comments about his dad beyond that."
It’s long been rumored that Jenner struggled with his gender identity, but after ex-wife Kris Jenner slammed the rumors calling them ludicrous, people weren’t sure what to believe. It wasn’t until Jenner continued to change his appearance, grow his hair out and begin to have an overall more feminine look, that some really began to believe his journey to becoming a woman could be more than just tabloid gold.
So, we have to ask:
