A Kentucky man was in police custody Thursday after allegedly admitting he killed his girlfriend and hid her body, concluding a three-day search after she had been reported missing.
Anthony Daryl Hall, 37, was arrested in Chesnee, South Carolina, after Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies found an abandoned vehicle on a nearby highway on Wednesday. Police said there were also reports of someone attempting to break into two parked cars in the area.
Hall was identified as the one who attempted the break-ins and police arrested him around 5:40 p.m.
While in custody, Hall allegedly admitted to deputies he had killed his girlfriend in Kentucky, hid her body and burned her car. Deputies called the Kentucky State Police, who verified they had been looking for Jodi Stapleton, 35, who was reported missing Monday.
She was last seen driving her SUV through Wellington, Kentucky.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said they relayed the information to Kentucky police, who conducted a search of Menifee County for Stapleton. Her body was found a home in Menifee. Her burned car was found in the surrounding area.
Details of Stapleton’s death were withheld, pending the completion of an autopsy within the next week.
Hall was booked into Spartanburg County Detention Center Wednesday, charged with being a fugitive from justice and two counts of car break-in. Kentucky State Police filed arrest warrants for Hall on murder, domestic violence and tampering with evidence charges shortly after he was booked. He is set to be extradited in the coming days.
