‘Kevin Can Wait’ Season 2 Spoilers: Erinn Hayes Exits Amid Leah Remini’s Return
“Kevin Can Wait” Season 2 will no longer feature Erinn Hayes as Kevin James’ onscreen wife, Donna.
The news came just a day after it was announced by CBS that Season 1 guest star Leah Remini, who played the role of Vanessa, will return for Season 2 as a series regular. Remini and James previously starred in “King of Queens” for nine seasons, and their partnership was a huge hit among fans.

According to TV Line, “Kevin Can Wait” Season 2 will undergo creative changes, and this is one of the main reasons why Hayes will no longer be part of the sitcom. On her Twitter account, Hayes revealed that she was let go by CBS ahead of Season 2 release. The actress also expressed her sadness and said that she had a great experience being part of Season 1. By the looks of it, the writers and creators of “Kevin Can Wait” are looking at shifting their focus from Kevin and Donna to Kevin and Vanessa.
In the finale episode for Season 1, retired cop Kevin returned to the force as part of an ongoing undercover mission. While there, he reunited with his former partner, Vanessa. The two cops were able to close the case. When Kevin arrived home, Donna told her husband that she is now unemployed. After she was passed up for a promotion as a school nurse, she decided to leave the institution.
During their conversation, Kevin told Donna that he has no plans to work fulltime. However, since both of them are now unemployed, someone has to figure out a way to pay with the bills. In Season 2, it is highly likely that Kevin will work as a cop or will team up with Vanessa.
“Kevin Can Wait” Season 2 also stars James’ real-life brother, Gary Valentine, Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright and Lenny Venito. The Season 2 premiere is scheduled for Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. EDT. This means that “Kevin Can Wait” will air on CBS right after “Big Bang Theory” Season 11 at 8 p.m. and “Young Sheldon” at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
