Kevin Durant Injury Update: How Much Longer Will Nets Be Without Star Forward?
The wait for Kevin Durant to make his return from a hamstring injury continues. The Brooklyn Nets star is expected to remain sidelined until early April, at a minimum.
Durant last played on Feb. 13 in Brooklyn’s victory over the Golden State Warriors. On Wednesday, Nets head coach Steve Nash told reporters that a scan showed Durant’s injury was improving, though he wouldn’t give a target date for the superstar's comeback.
“We’re monitoring it and expect him to make a full recovery,” Nash said, reports ESPN. “And hopefully it won’t be too long. But he's probably got a couple weeks of ramp-up left.”
When Durant first started to miss time with the injury, it appeared that the ailment wouldn’t keep him off the court for too long. The Nets eventually ruled out the forward until the All-Star break. More than a month after getting hurt, Durant is running out of time to gel with his new teammates before the playoffs.
The trio of Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving has only played seven games together. Blake Griffin, who the Nets recently signed in free agency, has yet to suit up for the team.
Brooklyn has 31 games remaining on its regular-season schedule. In three weeks, the Nets will only have 20 games left until the postseason.
“If he continues to improve and closes the gap on the healing and also puts himself in a position to return safely to play, he'll be back out. So we'll see," Nash said. "That’s kind of up to his body and however long that takes.”
Durant has played 19 games this season. He missed all of last year with a torn Achilles.
The Nets continue to thrive without Durant, winning 14 of their last 15 games. Harden had 40 points, 10 rebounds, and 15 assists in Wednesday’s win over the Indiana Pacers.
Brooklyn is tied for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
