Kevin Durant Staying With Nets Likeliest Scenario Following Latest Update
KEY POINTS
- An NBA insider says the Nets' asking price for Kevin Durant is way too high for any team
- It has almost been a month since Durant asked for a trade out of Brooklyn
- Suns fans remain hopeful about their chances in getting Durant
The Kevin Durant saga is no closer to an end than when it began and NBA fans are already feeling a sense of fatigue when it comes to the latest updates regarding Durant’s situation with the Brooklyn Nets.
NBA insider Brian Windhorst made an appearance on NBA Today with Malika Andrews and Tim Legler to talk about the latest on Durant.
“My phone is no longer exploding. We’ve gone quite quiet on this front… Durant’s price is so high that nobody can afford to pay it. If you execute a trade that makes your team weaker, then the point of you even calling to acquire Kevin Durant is failed,” said Windhorst.
“Right now, what we have is everybody waiting for the price to get lowered as the Nets mull taking it off the market, and as I put my ear to the ground in the NBA, I’m not hearing anything changing as far as the demand phase of this process.”
Durant initially asked for a trade out of Brooklyn back on June 30, with his preferred destination being the Phoenix Suns.
The mere thought of Durant teaming up with Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and the recently re-signed Deandre Ayton in Phoenix was enough to whet fans’ appetite for a trade to go down.
Nearly a month later, the news about Durant being traded to the Suns is about as dry as the Sonoran Desert.
Despite the lack of movement, Suns insider Flex from Jersey has remained adamant that a trade will be happening very soon, going so far as to double down on his previous statements.
Flex also recently echoed the sentiments of famed insider Shams Charania when he told Suns fans to be patient about a deal happening because of the many moving parts that are going to be involved in a trade of this magnitude.
For most Suns fans, a Durant deal is all or nothing since getting the otherworldly scorer gives them an even better chance of winning a title and helps to take more pressure off of Paul’s shoulders to generate points in clutch moments.
With how things are going, those hoping for a Durant trade may be better off not holding their breath anymore.
