It's going to be a long road to recovery for actor and comedian Kevin Hart.

Hart, who underwent back surgery following a serious car accident that left him with severe back injuries will require "extensive physical therapy," in addition to a series of follow-up doctor appointments, sources told TMZ. Sources also shared that the comedian is expected to be released from the hospital by the end of the week.

Early Sunday, the "Jumanji" actor was riding in the passenger seat of his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda with two others when it veered off into a ditch in Malibu, Calif. Both Hart and the driver, who has been identified as Jared Black, sustained major back injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Black's condition is unknown at the moment but the entertainment news site reported that he was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center.

Also involved in the car crash was Black's fiance, Rebecca Broxterman. She was in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the accident and managed to escape with only minor injuries.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident. Crash investigators told TMZ that alcohol was not a factor but that cops were looking into the possibility of excessive speed as the cause, with a witness claiming to have heard tires screeching before a loud boom.
