Kevin Smith, who penned and directed the 90s flick, "Chasing Amy," shared a throwback photo on Instagram to celebrate the movie's 25th anniversary Monday. Besides writing and directing, Smith also portrayed Silent Bob's character in the movie.

The photo shows Smith posing with his fellow cast members from the 1997 movie, Joey Lauren Adams, Ben Affleck, Dwight Ewell, Jason Lee and Jason Mewes.

"25 years ago today, CHASING AMY was released in movie theaters!" Smith wrote in the caption. "After getting a standing ovation at her Sundance debut three months prior, Amy opened in N.Y.C. and L.A. before moving to 500 screens nationwide 2 weeks later."

The 51-year-old revealed that the 1997 movie "resurrected" his career after his second movie, 1995's "Mallrats," failed to earn him recognition in the industry.

"If Clerks was 'The L’il Engine That Could' then Amy was 'Daredevil: Born Again': it resurrected my fledgling career after the world largely ignored my second film, the far less complicated Mallrats."

The actor and director further explained how, despite its failure, "Mallrats" turned out to be perfect as the cast of the movie also starred in "Chasing Amy."

"I met the incomparable #dwightewell (whose work I’d loved in #halhartley films) through Joey as well," he continued. "Along with Askewniverse mascot @jaymewes, we were off to tell the tale of male sexual insecurity set in the world of indie and mainstream comic books on a lean $250,000 budget (the second cheapest feature I ever made)."

The director went on to share how he, along with Jason Lee, won Independent Spirit Awards while Adams was nominated for Golden Globes.

Smith revealed that after being "nearly exiled" from the entertainment business after the release of "Mallrats," working on "Chasing Amy" helped him grow on the professional as well as personal front.

"Amy saved my career - but even better, it helped me mature as an artist and a person in the process," he added. "A quarter century’s gone by since these ancient indie film kids, then in their 20’s, all felt they all had something to prove."

On the work front, Smith's upcoming projects include "Clerks III," "Killroy Was Here," "Twilight of the Mallrats," "Sam and Twitch," "Moose Jaws" and "Helena Handbag."
