Khloe Kardashian Defends Kim Kardashian's Controversial Private Island Birthday Celebration

After Kim Kardashian faced backlash over her lavish 40th birthday celebration on a private island, sister Khloe Kardashian is addressing the criticisms.

Khloe shared her thoughts on the controversy surrounding the getaway when she appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Thursday, telling the host that she doesn’t know much about the issue but has heard that some are upset about the trip, E! News reported.

"This year is a frustrating year—I get it. I think there's so many frustrations going on for everybody, but also it's her 40th and this is something that she really wanted to do. For us, it was such a nice thing," the mom-of-one said.

Kim was slammed online after revealing earlier this week that she flew "20 or 25" of her closest friends and family to a luxurious private island amid the coronavirus pandemic to celebrate turning 40 on Oct. 21.

However, Khloe defended her sister's decision, revealing that precautionary measures were taken before and during the getaway and that the trip had benefited the workers on the private resort.

“Being there, like with all the precautions and everything that we took and being there and how grateful everybody was for the tourism aspect of it and how so many people said that we were their first party or guest that they've had in months and what it's done for them to be able to pay their bills or to do stuff for their family," Khloe revealed.

"Just hearing those messages when we were there—we felt really good and we felt so safe and we did it in the safest way I could imagine someone doing it," the reality star added.

Kim shelled out an estimated $1 million to fly her close friends and family to a private island resort in French Polynesia aboard an 88-seat Boeing 777 for a five-day trip, Page Six reported, citing unnamed sources.

The KKW Beauty mogul had shared that she and her guests had a lot of fun riding bikes, dancing and kayaking, among other activities, during the getaway.

"It was such a beautiful experience, and I want Kim to focus on just how beautiful it was and what she did for everybody. I don't want that to overshadow all the greatness that happened," Khloe said.

She also confirmed that Kylie Jenner wasn’t able to attend because she “had some work stuff.”
