As the search for Kiely Rodni has come to a stall two weeks after her disappearance, reality television star Dog the Bounty Hunter claims he has been getting a slew of tips regarding the missing California teen.
However, the celebrity bounty hunter, whose real name is Duane Chapman, is reluctant to join the search after the criticism he got for the high-profile Gabby Petito case, TMZ reported.
Representatives of Chapman claimed the reality star received tips about Rodni's disappearance, which could be converted into solid leads with his previous track record in finding missing people. However, Chapman is holding back until he is invited to join the search operation either by a family member or law enforcement.
Chapman would typically get involved in missing cases if the person could not be found even after 21 days, representatives said, NY Post reported.
During the search for 22-year-old Long Island woman Petito and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie last year, Chapman made headlines after he showed up at Brian's sister's house. Many people condemned Chapman, saying he was interfering with the police investigation for a publicity stunt.
Petito went missing in August 2021 during a cross-country trek with Brian, who was identified as the person of interest in her disappearance. Police found Petito's body in Wyoming in September. Brian shot himself and his body was found close to his parents' Florida home a month later. Investigators ruled the case as a murder-suicide.
The search for Rodni, who vanished after attending a party at Prosser Family Campground in Truckee on Aug. 6, has already passed 13 days.
Meanwhile, Placer County Sheriff's Office said the investigation was stalled after many partygoers who were with Rodni on the night of her disappearance refused to cooperate with officers, fearing they would be penalized over "illegal activity."
Officials said although they assured the community members that they would turn a blind eye to the illicit acts, they have only received a few leads.
"Just tell us what you know. Her family has suffered enough," Placer County Sheriff's Office public information officer Angela Musallam said, NY Post reported.
The department has announced it would be scaling down the search next week.
