  • The divers who found the body claim it is of the missing teen
  • Cops are yet to confirm the identity of the recovered body
  • Rodni went missing on Aug. 6 with her Honda CR-V car

Divers of a rescue team in search of 16-year-old Kiely Rodni have reportedly discovered a body inside a car in the reservoir near where the California teen was last seen more than two weeks back, reports said.

The search and recovery group, Adventures With Purpose, announced Sunday that their divers located the body of the missing teen, who had disappeared from Truckee after attending a campground party, NY Post reported.

"We have CONFIRMED Kiely is inside," the Adventures With Purpose said in a Facebook post at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sacbee reported.

The group said they have notified Rodni's family and law enforcement officials are on the way to confirm details. The body was found about 300 yards from the campground and the car was upside down in only 14 feet of water, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the police have not immediately confirmed the identity of the deceased.

Rodni was last seen at around 12:30 a.m. at the Prosser Family Campground on Aug. 6, while she attended the end-of-school party along with hundreds of juveniles and young adults. Since then, Rodni could not be reached on the phone, and her vehicle, a 2013 Honda CR-V was also missing.

Meanwhile, the deputies from the Placer County Sheriff, California Highway Patrol, and Truckee Police arrived at the site to determine if the vehicle the divers discovered was the one Rodni drove, reports said.

During the investigation last week, deputies determined that Rodni's cellphone was last detected at the campground lake. Based on the report, at least three police dive teams searched the reservoir but their efforts were in vain.

The officials then recruited Adventures With Purpose who are known for their expertise in underwater searches and missing person hunts. Doug Bishop of the search group said the body was located with the help of sonar imaging technology, NBC News reported.

Although the law enforcement officials did a thorough search in the water, the rescue group decided to do a final search at the reservoir Sunday.

"Police told us they did a rigorous search of this body of water. They gave us a grid map and made us confident we didn't need to search here," Josh Cantu, a diver from the search team said. However, within a few minutes of diving, one of the team members, Nick Rinn, discovered the body inside a car not far from the shore.

The discovery comes after law enforcement announced last week that they would be scaling down the search for the missing teen.
