It's time for the Holidays. Once again, Tripwire Interactive is bringing a new Yuletide update for Killing Floor 2. It includes a new community map called Sanitarium and a new objective map called Biotics Lab.

In the game's steam page, Killing Floor 2 will be on sale, slashing 67 percent off its original price. The update event called "Yuletide Horror" will feature unique items such as new weapons and the return of "zesty" Christmas Zeds. The update will be available today. Gamers will also receive two new weapons for free and two more that you can buy after downloading the patch.

Fans are also excited for the introduction of Rachel Clamely, making her way into the first-person shooter for the first time. If that isn't enough to pique your interest, Tripwire Interactive will be debuting her as a keen new boss called The Matriarch.

Clamely's backstory is quite impressive. The developers have said that she's the daughter of Kevin Clamely, Horzine's former CEO that was responsible for the Zeds outbreak.

After unleashing the zombie troupe out of the world, the former CEO himself into the prodigious Patriarch. Her daughter meanwhile helped bring down two Patriarch clones in the original Killing Floor, like her dad, Rachel has now also undergone mutation.

According to Tripwire, "The Matriarch is a multi-stage boss that builds on and combines previous mechanics from other bosses." In short, gamers will be entertained for hours trying to beat the boss, another thing, The Matriarch, also has unique tricks of its own.

The Matriarch boss battle will run in four primary phases, each tied to the various states of its health bars. The sessions are broken up by escalating waves of EDARs enemies that are added into the fray as she starts a new phase.

In terms of hardware against the mighty Matriarch, players will be equipping the following weapons depending on their class:

  • the HRG Incision for the Field Medic
  • Winterbites for the Gunslinger
  • the Mosin Nagant for the Sharpshooter (a paid DLC weapon)
  • the Riot Shield / Glock 18 combo for SWAT

Before we forget, the holidays wouldn't be complete without the return of Gary Busey's Badass Santa. Mr. Klaus will be a purchasable character in the game. Last but not least, Tripwire will be releasing a teaser trailer for next year's events. Happy gaming!
