Kim Kardashian Diagnosed With Lupus —A False Positive?
Was Kim Kardashian’s disease diagnosis conclusive or a false positive?
Kardashian received the unfortunate news from her doctor about testing positive for Lupus disease. The news broke during the season premiere of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” leaving Kanye’s wife really emotional, Yahoo News reported.
Kardashian took it to Twitter and shared her thoughts about the devastating news.
Earlier, her sister Khloe Kardashian reportedly accompanied her to the doctor’s office. The doctor told the older Kardashian of the worst case scenario —that it could be the start of a systemic process of rheumatoid arthritis. The doctor, however, clarified that until completion of Kardashian’s blood test, they won’t really know.
After the results came in, the doctor called Kardashian and told the “KUWTK” star that her antibodies tested positive for lupus disease and rheumatoid arthritis. But, he explained that getting a false positive at the initial screening is possible; hence, he ordered hands and joints ultrasound scans to determine the cause.
So Kardashian was initially diagnosed with Lupus, and although inconclusive, one might one wonder what the disease is. Some may say it wasn’t a big deal, but she’s a Kardashian and Kanye West’s wife so, yes, it’s a big deal to the public especially to Kardashian’s fans.
Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease wherein the body’s own immune system attacks the person’s tissues and organs. The “KUWTK” star’s initial disease diagnosis can cause inflammation to different parts of the body, including joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, lungs, brain and heart. If one can remember correctly, Kardashian complained of her wrist hurting again and she even said that it felt like it was in her bones.
Is it really difficult to diagnose lupus? According to Mayo Clinic, the disease’s signs and symptoms mostly mimic those of other ailments, hence, it’s hard to diagnose the said disease. The classic sign is having butterfly rash on the person’s cheeks. This reportedly occurs to many, but not all people diagnosed with the disease.
Signs and symptoms of lupus disease may include fatigue, fever, joint pain, stiffness and swelling, butterfly rash on the face, skin lesions that appear or gets worse when exposed to sun, fingers and toes turn white or blue when exposed to cold and when stressed, shortness of breath, chest pain, dry eyes, headaches, confusion and memory loss.
Some are predisposed to the disease, and triggered by infections, certain drugs or exposure to sunlight. Is there a cure? No. But there are treatments that can help control the disease’s symptoms.
Kardashian’s diagnosis is still on the early stage and inconclusive. Stay tuned in the next episodes of “KWUTK” to know more.
