Kim Kardashian Says Ex-Husband Kanye West Taught Her Not To Be A 'People Pleaser'
Kim Kardashian is thanking her ex-husband Kanye West for teaching her to be more confident.
The "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star appeared in the latest episode of "We Are Supported By," which is hosted by Kristen Bell and Monica Padman, and opened up about the best advice she received from West.
"I got to a point — and maybe [it was] being in a relationship with Kanye for a decade, someone that absolutely didn't care about likeability factor or what any of perception of him was as long as he was true to himself — that taught me so much in the best way of just being me and living in the moment," Kardashian said.
The reality star said she "used to be such a people pleaser" but has since learned the importance of "just being myself first," regardless of what other people think.
"You don't have to please everyone, as long as I'm myself and as long as I'm doing it the way that I want to, like, you have one life and you're living it for you," she added. "That taught me to just be more confident in myself and truly not care as much of what other people thought."
Kardashian further added that she reached a point where she just didn't care if she was "the b---h of the week." Her newfound confidence soon spilled onto her personal life, for example, she now started posting whatever she wants to on her social media.
"I used to be such a people-pleaser," she noted. "And then when I got to just learn to please myself, no matter what that meant to other people ... but just being myself first, I think was something that I learned over time, whether it's being so close to someone that really felt that way so genuinely to their core, or whether it's age, whether it's being a mom, experiences, all probably all kind of wrapped into one."
Kardashian and West got married in Florence, Italy, in May 2014, after dating for two years. The couple filed for divorce after seven years of marriage in February 2021. They share four kids – North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.
The exes have since made the effort to stay amicable, as they co-parent their kids. "It's very important to her that the kids spend as much time as possible with Kanye," a source told PEOPLE earlier this month. "Kim is trying to be supportive. She is focused on co-parenting. Nothing has changed otherwise. They are still moving forward with the divorce."
