Kim Kardashian Speaks Out After Claim She Damaged Marilyn Monroe's Historic Dress At Met Gala
Kim Kardashian on Tuesday addressed reports that she damaged Marilyn Monroe’s historic dress when she wore it to the 2022 Met Gala.
An Instagram account posted photos of the dress last week showing that the fabric has now been stretched along the zipper and that some of the gems are missing in the back. The photo’s caused some to question why the current owner, Ripley’s Believe it Or Not, would allow that to happen to the prestigious gown.
Kardashian appeared on NBC's "Today" where she claimed to have taken many precautions.
“No, and Ripley’s, we worked together so well. There were handlers in gloves that put it on me," Kardashian said.
“It was such a process. I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers, and I put the dress on on the bottom of the carpet, went up the stairs. I probably had it on for three minutes, four minutes, and then I changed right at the top of the stairs,” she added.
After the initial Instagram post calling out Ripley’s and Kardashian, Ripley’s also released a statement on Thursday ensuring the dress was properly taken care of and that no damage was done.
“Kim Kardashian’s walk up the Metropolitan Museum’s stairs at this year’s Met Gala caused quite the stir, but one thing Ripley’s Believe It or Not! can say with confidence is that it did not cause damage to Marilyn Monroe’s famed “Happy Birthday” dress from 1962," Ripley's said.
