A four-year-old died after she was bitten by a venomous snake. The incident took place in Davao City, Philippines, on Sunday.

The child, identified as Airezlyn Upla, had accompanied her family to the cornfield when she rushed to her mother crying. She then told her mother, Arlen Upla, that she was bitten by a snake.

Upon hearing the girl’s screams, the victim’s grandmother too rushed to check on her. The grandmother then found the snake heading toward the road. The snake was identified as a king cobra.

The family rushed the child to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead by the doctors. A police case was filed and a funeral was held Monday.

The incident comes a few months after a farmer in Barangay Bolton, Philippines, died after he was bitten by a venomous snake. The man’s relatives started searching for him after he failed to return home from the farm. During the search, the relatives found the man lying motionless in a grassy slope. The man was declared dead at the spot and his body was sent for autopsy which revealed he was bitten by a venomous snake and that he had several bite marks on his body.
