‘Of Kings And Prophets’ Season 1 Spoilers: 5 Things To Know Before March 8 Premiere
ABC is going back in time — to 1000 B.C to be exact.
On Tuesday, the network will introduce its newest series based on one of the oldest stories there is — the Old Testament. “Of Kings and Prophets,” created by “Exodus: Gods and Kings” writers Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, will take audiences on a bloody and biblical journey to the Kingdom of Israel.
The action-packed saga, based on the Books of Samuel, will retell the story of King Saul (Ray Winstone) and Israel’s future leader David (Olly Rix). But before you tune into the freshman drama, here’s everything you need to know about the sword clashing series:
1. “Game of Thrones” Vibe
According to reports, the bible-based tale tries to mimic HBO’s successful series “Game of Thrones." From the sexually explicit scenes to the power hungry characters, audiences can catch key elements from the award-winning drama woven into the bible-based show ... just don't expect dragons!
2. “Sex-Drenched” Series
“Of Kings of Prophets” will push the envelope.
“We’re going to go as far as we can,” showrunner Chris Brancato revealed at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “This story is an Old Testament [one that’s] violent [and] sex-drenched. It’s one of the world’s first soap operas.”
In fact, some moments in the show are so scandalous that they weren’t permitted to be broadcasted on the family friendly network. Brancato explained that the episodes will also be streamed online, allowing viewers to see the scenes too risqué for the small screen.
3. A Love Story
In addition to featuring sexy scenes throughout Season 1, audiences can also expect a love story to unfold.
“The love story is essential to this pilot story,” Brancato teased.
4. Pilot Synopsis
According to the summary for episode 1, titled “Offering of Blood,” King Saul will arrange a “strategic marriage” for his daughter Merav (Jeanine Mason). The King hopes the marriage will “unify the 12 Israelite tribes against the Philistines.” But, in the middle of wedding preparations the prophet Samuel (Mohammad Bakri) brings the King a message from God — one that orders the death of the Amalekites.
5. David vs. the Lion
The shepherd David will make his way into the plot when he pays a visit to the King’s palace in Gibeah. David is hoping to settle his family’s debt by fighting a lion that has been terrorizing his flock.
“Of Kings And Prophets” will air its series premiere Tuesday, March 8, at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
