  • Kirsten Dunst said she would never say no to playing Mary Jane Watson again

Kirsten Dunst has revealed she is open to re-joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a new interview, the three-time Golden Globe nominee said she would love to reprise her role as Mary Jane Watson in a future “Spider-Man” movie.

“I would do it, why not?” she told Variety. “That would be fun. I would never say no to something like that,” she added, before joking, “I’d be old MJ at this point with little Spidey babies,” the actress said.

Dunst starred alongside Tobey Maguire as the love interest of Peter Parker in “Spider-Man (2002),” “Spider-Man 2 (2004),” and “Spider-Man 3 (2007),” all directed by Sam Raimi. With “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in the pipeline, and with Alfred Molina reprising his role as Dr. Otto Octavius (Doc Ock) from “Spider-Man 2” in the upcoming film, speculations are rife that the previous stars from the franchise will make surprise appearances in the new “Spider-Man” movie.

Aside from Dunst, among those rumored to make cameos in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” are Maguire, who is now 46, as well as Andrew Garfield, who played the superhero in “The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014).”

While Dunst would be happy to return to the franchise, she said she does not like to be known only for her role as Mary Jane. Back in 2019, she called out a fan who wrote on Twitter that she was best known for her role as Spiderman’s girlfriend.

“I don’t really look at Twitter and stuff, I’m not really a social media girl,” she said on “The Talk” at the time. “But I was looking for the show and everything. I read it too and I was just like, ‘Yeah, that’s pretty s*****.’ You know what I mean?” she added.

“I was proud that my fans and everyone rallied around and supported me. It was a very ignorant tweet and it was done probably very carelessly by a man,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Tom Holland teased in a recent interview with Total Film Magazine that fans should expect to be moved by “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” “What people will be really surprised about is that it’s not fun, this film. You’re going to see characters that you love go through things that you would never wish for them to go through. And I was just really excited to kind of lean into that side of Peter Parker,” he told the magazine.
