- Redheads comprise only about 2% of the world's population
Kiss A Ginger Day, celebrated on Jan. 12 each year, is a special day dedicated to showing love and appreciation for redheads around the world.
Comprising only about 2% of the world's population, redheads have been the subject of mockery, discrimination and bullying since ancient times, but there is no doubt their fiery tresses make them stand out in a crowd and grab attention. Kiss A Ginger Day was founded by Derek Forgie in 2009 to counter Kick A Ginger Day, which occurs every November, according to National Today.
To commemorate the event, one can try doing something nice for a redhead, enjoying movies and music made by famous gingers and even kissing one.
In honor of Kiss A Ginger Day, here are 15 of the most famous redheads in the world.
1. Isla Fisher
A natural-born redhead, Isla Fisher once admitted that she didn't always love being a ginger as she would always get teased because of her hair. Fortunately, she has now learned to love her unique trait -- even if she is sometimes mistaken for fellow actress Amy Adams.
2. Amy Adams
Although Adams is a natural blonde, no one can deny how good she looks with the red locks that she has become known for. Adams has also said that she was too often labeled as "flirtatious" or "dumb" because of her blonde hair, but since she changed her hair color to red, she was able to snag roles she never had before. Regardless, Adams is aware that her hair color isn't the sole reason she has made a successful career.
"It’s just hair color. It was fascinating to see just one element of yourself change people’s perception and that became a very powerful tool for me, even in my acting," the actress said at the New York Times-hosted TimesTalk event in 2016, People reported.
3. Julianne Moore
Moore has only become more beautiful as she ages -- and her red locks are a big part of it. Although Moore has never confirmed whether or not her deep auburn hair color is natural, her daughter, Liv Freundlich, indicated that that kind of hair color is not something one can get from a bottle.
4. Lindsay Lohan
Since her "Parent Trap" days, Lohan has charmed many with her ginger hair. And although Lohan's auburn roots have gone through quite an evolution over the years, her cherry-wine hue remains one of the best.
5. Emma Stone
Similar to Amy Adams, Stone is a natural blonde. However, her burnt-orange hue hair color is the one most people know her for and has even made her a hairstyle icon for some time.
6. Madelaine Petsch
The "Riverdale" actress has always been questioned over her hair color as some believe her cherry-red hair is fake. Petsch, however, has revealed that she's never touched dye in her life.
"My hair is very much real," the actress told Flare in 2017. "If I dyed my hair, my mother would disown me."
7. Sophie Turner
For the first few years of filming "Game of Thrones," Turner had to dye her hair up to twice a week to maintain Sansa Stark's fiery red hair color. The actress prefers an icier blonde hue nowadays and wears wigs when in character.
8. Nicole Kidman
Longtime fans of Kidman would know that the actress didn't always have Cinderella-blonde hair. Kidman, during her earliest roles, had bouncy ringlets and strawberry hair. Although it is unlikely that the actress would ever go back to being a redhead, fans can always rewatch "Practical Magic" every time they miss her red hair.
9. Rihanna
Yes, Rihanna is a brunette. Still, the singer's red hair during her "Loud" era and the 2015 Met Gala were iconic.
10. Julia Roberts
The "Pretty Woman" actress has been an icon since the '80s and has been recognized as a redhead. While she usually spends most of her days sporting blonde hair, the actress sometimes goes back to her (fake) roots that she rocks oh so well.
11. Lizzo
Since election season, Lizzo has been giving the internet back-to-back iconic looks. Her bright red curly style is undeniably eye-catching and has even encouraged her followers to vote.
12. Bryce Dallas Howard
Howard is a natural redhead -- a color that fits her very well. But recently, the actress revealed that she used highlights to brighten her naturally darker red hair.
13. Jessica Chastain
Like Isla Fisher, Chastain struggled to love her red hair during her childhood but has now learned to embrace it.
"I was ridiculed for having red hair, for having freckles. But whatever you are ridiculed about that makes you different is what you'll celebrate in the future. If I wanted to dye my hair, I could, but I realized that's who I am, and my differences [make me] special," the actress told Refinery29.
14. Connie Britton
The strawberry-blonde color might not be her natural hair hue, but Britton rocks the ginger look very well. The "Dirty John" actress has revealed that her roots are actually a "mousey brown."
15. Taraji P. Henson
Although the actress doesn't have red as her natural hair color, her iconic 2017 hairstyle still leaves people in awe. Henson highlighted her curls with a reddish color that looked so good, her fans still miss it to this day.
