  • YouTuber Dawson Gurley was given a lifetime ban from the Warriors' homecourt
  • He was able to have a quick shootaround ahead of Game 5 of the NBA Finals
  • Fans on social media are split with regard to Gurley's ban

The NBA’s popularity across the world has always been on an upward trajectory thanks to the number of players that each fan can relate to and sometimes, they look eerily similar to that player.

This was mainly how YouTuber BigDawsTV, real name Dawson Gurley, entered the consciousness of even the most casual NBA fans because of how much he looks like Golden State Warriors superstar Klay Thompson.

Gurley would then release a short three-minute video of him playing basketball in public while wearing a Warriors uniform with Thompson’s name on the back to fully sell the idea of just how much they look alike.

He would release two more videos about him impersonating Thompson, even getting courtside seats to interact with Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry during their 2017 and 2018 NBA playoffs run.

However, the fun and games have been put to an official stop by Brian Herbert, the vice president of security at the Warriors’ home court of Chase Center, for all of his antics ahead of Golden State’s Game 5 victory in the NBA Finals.

Gurley posted the full letter that was given to him and later went on to explain his side of the issue, with fans completely split on whether to support him or not.

“Technically, I did not trespass. I talked to security, went through metal detectors, and walked right into the building. They welcomed me with open arms. I also never claimed to be Klay,” Gurley posted on Twitter in response to a fan who claimed he trespassed.

The YouTuber would later reveal that news organizations have been reaching out to him for comments, but he decided not to entertain them in order to not make an even bigger issue out of it.

Gurley posted the full video of his day which included him having a few minutes of shootaround on the Warriors’ home floor and ended it by saying that he did feel bad about being banned, but it was completely understandable.

This situation now becomes a question of who is at fault in this scenario because the security team did allow him to pass through the employee entrance without asking him for any sort of identification that he really was Thompson.

Meanwhile, the real Klay Thompson scored 21 points in Game 5 of the NBA Finals as the Warriors beat the Boston Celtics, 104-94, to take a 3-2 lead in the series.

The Warriors have the chance to wrap it up and bring home the coveted Larry O'Brien trophy in Game 6, which is set to take place at the iconic TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday, June 16.
