  • Luis Diaz picked up a knee injury in Liverpool's 3-2 loss at Arsenal
  • He left the Emirates Stadium on crutches
  • Diaz is not expected to play again this year

Liverpool FC have suffered a massive setback as Luis Diaz has reportedly been ruled out till December.

Diaz picked up a knee injury during Liverpool's 3-2 defeat at Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday. Scans have revealed the left winger does not require surgery, but the injury will keep him out until after the World Cup, the Guardian reported. Diaz left the Emirates Stadium on crutches with his knee in a brace.

The 25-year-old is expected to miss around 13 games for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side, which is already struggling this season. This includes their home game against reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday and a trip to North London next month to take on Tottenham Hotspur.

Diaz has netted four goals and three assists in 12 games for Liverpool in the 2022-23 campaign.

The Reds, who finished runners-up in the Premier League last term, are currently placed 10th in the table with just 10 points from eight games. The Anfield side has managed just two victories in the Premier League this season.

Diaz was not to feature in the FIFA World Cup 2022 as Colombia did not qualify for the marquee event.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's bad news is not over yet as their key defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold, also sustained an injury during the Arsenal game Sunday. While the Reds are awaiting details on the severity of the right-back's injury, Alexander-Arnold is not expected to play in Liverpool's upcoming matches against Rangers and Manchester City, according to Goal.com.

In a post-match interview after the defeat at Arsenal, Klopp said Alexander-Arnold would not leave the field if he could have played on.

"[He] twisted the ankle, not good. Trent never, in seven years, went off if he could have played on. He was in too much pain, it started swelling immediately, so we will have to see," said Klopp.

Liverpool are already without the likes of Andy Robertson, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who are recovering from their injuries.

Liverpool's next match is an away fixture against Rangers in the Champions League on Wednesday.
