Knicks News: Rasheed Wallace to Join New York after Almost Signing with the Lakers Last Season?

With training camp just a few days away, the Knicks are looking to make a few final additions to their 2012-13 roster. Now, it looks like Rasheed Wallace could be one of those late additions.

New York is reportedly interested in adding the veteran big man. Wallace worked out at the Knicks practice facility last week and could be making a return to the NBA.

The veteran hasn’t played in the league since 2010 when he went to the Finals with the Boston Celtics. He played 79 games that year, averaging 9.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.

Wallace has been retired for two years, though he was very close to making a comeback last season. He and the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly agreed upon a deal in February, but Wallace ultimately decided to stay retired.

The 15-year veteran would have to come off the bench for the Knicks, a role he never accepted until his final NBS season. If he signs with New York, Wallace would vie for playing time with backup centers Kurt Thomas and Marcus Camby.

Tracy McGrady was on the Knicks radar, but the team has reportedly shifted their focus to Wallace. McGrady played for New York in 2010.

The Knicks interest in Wallace stems largely from head coach Mike Woodson. He coached the big man when the two were with the Detroit Pistons and won a title together in 2004.

Adding Wallace would give the Knicks another one of the oldest players in the NBA. They already have three of the six oldest players in the league. Wallace would be the ninth-oldest player if were to come out of retirement.
