Kodak Black Is Fighting For Custody Of Child While Still In Jail
Kodak Black, real name Dieuson Octave, may be sitting in a Florida jail, but that doesn’t mean the “Tunnel Vision” rapper will stop fighting for custody of his son.
According to a report from Bossip, the 19-year-old is accusing the mother of his three-year-old son of demanding money from him whenever he asks to see the child. “She is using the son as an ATM card,” said Kodak Black’s lawyer, Raven Romona Liberty.
The hip-hop artist originally sued the mother, Jammiah Broomfield, last year to obtain custody but the case was rejected by the judge when Broomfield, her boyfriend and her lawyer arrived late to court. Kodak’s lawyer says under Florida law, he is allowed to have half-custody of the child.
While the rapper has had a string of legal problems in his young career, his lawyer calls him a “stand-up guy” and describes him as a “19-year-old man who is trying to be there for his son.” The lawyer went on to say, Broomfield is “blocking that.”
Kodak’s latest arrest came at the end of February when he was arrested for violating his probation. Thanks to video footage available online, the hip-hop artist was spotted at a boxing match in Cincinnati, Ohio and at a strip club in Miami. According to the arrest warrant, Black failed “to remain confined to his approved residence except for one half hour before and after approved employment, public service work, or any other special activities approved by the officer… On various times and dates.”
That’s also not Black’s only problem. The 19-year-old is still facing a charge of criminal sexual conduct in South Carolina. According to the warrant for that arrest, Kodak “forced the victim onto the bed in the room and then onto the floor of the room.”
The warrant goes on to state that “the victim repeatedly told the defendant [Kodak Black] no and to stop. The defendant did not stop.” Police also say the rapper bit the victim on her chest and neck. A sexual assault kit confirmed the injuries. If found guilty, Kodak could face up to 30 years in prison.
