Free agent forward Kris Humphries is expected to resign with the New Jerseys for a one-year, $7 million deal, which could be announced as early as Wednesday afternoon.

Humphries had been hoping for a long-term deal after having a career year in 2010, but his off the court issues might have turned away potential suitors.

Humphries has been a staple in gossip magazines and tabloids after marrying reality television star Kim Kardashian. The pair wed in a much-hyped, televised wedding that netted the pair approximately $17 million, but filed for divorce a mere 72 days later.

Since the publicized breakup, the two have engaged in a war of words through leaks to magazines and newspapers. Through sources close to the two, each has tried to present some version of what lead to the divorce.

Humphries has largely stayed mum on the subject, but did recently sit down with Good Morning America and said that he is trying to avoid the distractions and focus on basketball.

For me, it's just certain things happen in life and you've got to move forward, Humphries said. Through everything I'm just focused on family and preparing for basketball. Basketball has always been something I've taken really serious and I continue to do that and I'm just moving forward.

The 26-year old power forward was hoping for a long-term deal worth at least $10 million annually after averaging a daily double of 10 points and 10.4 rebounds per game last year with the Nets. Humphries received minimal interest from teams around the league and was only resigned by the Nets after the Orlando Magic pulled Dwight Howard off the trade market.

Humphries is expected to compete for a starting role right away against Shelden Williams, but could also additional competition from Andrei Kirilenko. The Nets haven't officially signed the Russian basketball player, but multiple reports indicate that it's only a matter of time before Kirilenko leaves CSKA Moscow for the Nets.
