Kristen Stewart Opens Up About Nude Scenes In New Film ‘Personal Shopper’: ‘I Wasn’t Apprehensive’
Kristen Stewart didn’t feel “weird” about going completely nude in her upcoming movie, “Personal Shopper.”
The 26-year-old actress recently opened up about the French indie film and her nude scenes during an interview with W Magazine, where she dished that she didn’t feel “apprehensive” about taking her clothes off in front of the camera at all. Director Olivier Assayas’ nonchalant attitude about her nudity also helped her feel more comfortable about shooting the more “risqué” scenes.
“I wasn’t apprehensive. I feel super great with director Olivier [Assayas], as well. The scenes in which I don’t have clothes on or the scenes that seem ‘risqué’ from an outsider’s perspective, there was no acknowledgment on his part,” she told the magazine.
The “Twilight” star added that Assayas’ and the film’s crew’s attitude towards nudity in filmmaking was a cultural trait. “They’re very f------g French,” she remarked. However, she dished that the same isn't true about Americans, whom she says are “are weirder about s--t like that.”
Stewart emphasized that she is not trying to “de-sexualize” nudity. However, she’s also not “weird” about baring it all on camera. “I’m pretty open. I think people are a little too f—— weird about it, to be honest, but that’s kind of why I was like, ‘I’ll do it,’” she revealed.
In the same interview, Stewart explained that the nudity is an important aspect in the development of her character, Maureen, a celebrity personal shopper who has the ability to communicate with spirits. “My personal feeling about that is that I’m really unashamed, but within the context of the story, there’s a lot of shame … So it’s kind of nice to see someone stripped and bare, totally bare. There’s a strength in it,” she said of her character.
The actress went on to say that the sex scenes in the indie film also play an important role in letting audiences understand her character’s personality. “There’s an aspect of sexuality in the movie that’s so lonely and that is just one of the saddest things. She’s not with anyone. Like the sex scene? Totally alone. She’s interacting with a fake person on a phone,” Stewart added.
In addition to Stewart, “Personal Shopper” also stars Lars Eidinger, Sigrid Bouaziz, Anders Danielsen Lie and Ty Olwin, according to IMDB.
Stewart’s new film, “Personal Shopper,” is slated for release on Wednesday, Oct. 19. For now, check out the trailer for the upcoming movie below!
