Kristen Stewart Talks About Playing 'The Joker' After Fans Campaign On Social Media [Video]
Kristen Stewart has shared her reaction to netizens' relentless campaign for her to portray The Joker in DC's upcoming "Batman" movie which stars her ex, Robert Pattinson in the lead role.
The actress noted that it has already "been done so well", but that she doesn’t want to turn down the opportunity completely.
Speaking with Variety on Wednesday, the "Twilight" star noted that she "love the energy behind" the suggestion but "it's really been done so well."
"I feel like, maybe, we don’t traipse over, but I love that gusto," she told the outlet. "Let’s figure something else out. I’m totally down to play a freaky, scary person."
Although the actress noted that she doesn't want to completely turn down a potential offer - if it comes her way officially - she wants to do something new instead. "Not ‘no,’ but not the most stoked I’ve ever been. Let’s do something new," she added.
A fan took to Twitter on the same day to share the interview clip and praised the interviewer.
The fan noted when the actress told him, "[The Joker] has really been done so well." the interviewer replied, "Not by Kristen Stewart…" adding, "I love this dude."
Netizens took to the comments section to share their reaction.
One of the users noted that it is disrespectful towards The Joker character and the idea is absolutely "horrible." Another user praised the actress for handling herself well during the interview, noting, "So kind so graceful even when they’re pushing. love to see it."
The Joker's character has been portrayed on-screen by several actors over the years including Cesar Romero in 1966, Jack Nicholson in 1989. In fact, Heath Ledger - who played Clown Prince of Crime in 2008's "The Dark Knight" - won an Oscar posthumously for his performance.
On the work front, the 31-year-old actress will be next seen in a historical drama, "Spencer," which is based on the life of Princess Diana. The movie is helmed by director Pablo Larraín and is slated to release on Nov. 5.
Stewart will also feature in a horror sci-fi drama, "Crimes of the Future," which is directed by David Cronenberg. The movie is under post-production and expected to release in 2022.
