Kristen Stewart Talks Sexuality, Dating And ‘Pressure’ To Come Out Publicly

Kristen Stewart has opened up about the pressure she felt in her early 20s to label her sexuality after it emerged that she dated both men and women.

Stewart, who turned 30 in April, told InStyle in a new interview that she wanted to know herself better before she told the world about it.

In her early 20s, Stewart's romance with "Twilight" co-star Robert Pattinson grabbed the limelight. But shortly after their split, Stewart was seen out with women, and she was immediately asked to come out publicly.

"The first time I ever dated a girl, I was immediately being asked if I was a lesbian," the "Charlie's Angels" actress told InStyle magazine.

"And it’s like, 'God, I’m 21 years old'. I felt like maybe there were things that have hurt people I’ve been with. Not because I felt ashamed of being openly gay but because I didn’t like giving myself to the public, in a way," she continued.

The actress rose to superstardom after the release of "Twilight" in 2008, and her offscreen romance with Pattinson put her under intense media and public scrutiny.

However, their relationship started experiencing cracks in 2012 when Stewart was photographed getting cozy with her married "Snow White and The Huntsman" director, Rupert Sanders. While cheating rumors raged on, both Stewart and Pattinson tried to work on their relationship but parted ways for good in 2013.

Since then, Stewart has dated visual effects producer Alicia Cargile and model Stella Maxwell and is currently in a relationship with screenwriter Dylan Meyer.

Last year, Stewart told Howard Stern that she has already started thinking of popping the question to Meyer, whom she has been dating since August 2019.

"I want to be, like, sort of somewhat reasonable about it, but I think good things happen fast," Stewart said on Stern’s SiriusXM radio show.

"I have a couple plans that are just the coolest things to do,” she said about how she plans to pop the question. "I’m really impulsive. I don’t know when it’s going to be."

The couple has been private about their romance but made their relationship Instagram official in April this year.
