Kristen Wiig impressed fans with her performance as the villain Cheetah in the superhero flick "Wonder Woman 1984."
The "Wonder Woman" sequel is now streaming on HBO Max and is showing in some theaters. Fans who have watched the Gal Gadot-starrer have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts about "WW84," with many praising Wiig's version of awkward, bookish scientist Barbara Minerva and her alter ego Cheetah.
"Kristen Wiig's Cheetah is so perfect. Wonder Woman 1984 is soooo amazing!!!" one tweeted.
"The thing that makes Kristen Wiig so perfect in #WonderWoman84 is that they didn’t need fancy makeup or CGI for her, she could just do all that," a second user wrote.
"Kristen Wiig is so perfect. ugh," another added.
"Initial reaction is yes there are some narrative lengths to please but overall the cast of Wonder Woman is so perfect, charming and ideal. Gal is so good at the balance of power and justice while Kristen Wiig is F-----G PERFECT as a villain. She can easily teeter anti-hero," a different user tweeted.
"Are people just now realizing that Kristen Wiig can play a villain who uses her sex appeal to terrorize people and get what she wants like this never happened???" another wrote.
One netizen described Wiig's performance as "phenomenal," "perfect" and "show-stopping."
In an interview with The New York Times Tuesday, Wiig said she was "excited and equally nervous" about the fans' reaction to her portrayal of Cheetah. There are many versions of Cheetah, including Priscilla Rich and Deborah Domaine, but when she heard "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins' idea, she gave it a go.
"I always love bad guys that you’re rooting for a little bit, where you understand why they’re bad," she said when asked what she found interesting about the character.
She continued, "The thing that I loved about her is that there’s always Barbara in there. Even when she fully becomes Cheetah, you can see Barbara in there and Diana can see Barbara in there. I loved that conflict that it puts her in, and puts the audience in, because she’s so likable and nervous and insecure. We all have moments where we’ve felt like Barbara before."
Jenkins, meanwhile, earlier said that she created her version of Cheetah with Wiig in mind.
"I wanted somebody who was a good time to be with and someone who you liked very much," Jenkins told the Los Angeles Times. "And there’s no one I like more than Kristen Wiig."
"Both Gal and I were superfans of hers," she continued. "You know she can nail the first part [of the movie] but having watched her work for so long I could also see how unbelievably talented she is as an actress. I had full confidence that she could reach this other end [and transform into the villain]. And what an interesting thing to see someone do."
