Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) leaves his grandson, Superman, what appears to be a parting message in the first trailer for Syfy’s superhero pilot “Krypton.” Syfy

The first trailer for Syfy’s Superman prequel pilot, “Krypton,” has been leaked online, giving DC fans a glimpse of what the Man of Steel’s home planet looks like two generations before its destruction.

In the one-and-a-half minute clip, Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), is heard leaving what seems to be a parting message to his grandson before the obliteration of Krypton.

“Kal-El, my future grandson, by the time you heard these words, your birth world will be a distant memory,” says Seg-El, as the video shows the vast and technologically advanced landscape of Krypton.

“The House of El led a revolution against tyranny,” Seg-El continues. “[But] the story of your family isn’t how we died, but how we lived. I know you will fight to save your world just as I fought to save mine.”

As previously reported, Seg-El is the scion of the once-prosperous El family which was stripped of its rank after it failed to end tyranny. In the pilot, Seg-El is living in the planet’s lowest caste as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his planet from chaos.

In addition to Seg-El, also seen in the trailer is his grandfather, Val-El (Ian McElhinney), who defied death by going to the Phantom Zone and is a staunch believer of space exploration.

Seg-El’s love interest, Lyta Zod (Georgina Campbell), is also featured in the trailer. Lyta is a reluctant cadet and warrior in the Kryptonian military. For some reason, Seg-El and Lyta’s relationship is forbidden and remains a secret.

Seg-El’s best friend, Kem (Rasmus Hardiker), is also spotted in a couple of shots in the trailer, as well as junior magistrate Nyssa-Vex, played by Wallis Day.

At some point in the trailer, a mysterious old man also gives Seg-El a key of sorts and tells him to find the fortress. Although the fortress is not shown in the promo clip, it may be similar to the Fortress of Solitude on CW’s “Supergirl,” as both fortresses require Kryptonian blood from anyone who wants to gain access.

The pilot was directed by Colm McCarthy from a story and teleplay by David S. Goyer and Ian Goldberg. Syfy has yet to pick up the pilot to series, but the trailer teases that the show is set to debut in 2017. Watch the trailer below:
