Kyle Rittenhouse Says Trial Was About 'Right To Self Defense' In Fox News Interview
In an exclusive interview to air Monday at 8 p.m. ET on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Tucker Carlson talks to Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted of all charges Friday in a highly controversial trial over his shooting of three people that resulted in the deaths of two.
After the shooting of Jacob Blake by Kenosha, Wisconsin, police, protesters took to the streets and Rittenhouse went with an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, saying he was there to protect property and assist emergency personnel.
Rittenhouse, 18, was charged with homicide, attempted homicide and reckless endangerment. He was found not guilty on all charges.
A clip released over the weekend shows Rittenhouse’s first interview with Carlson since the acquittal.
“This case has nothing to do with race. It never had anything to do with race. It had to do with the right to self-defense,” Rittenhouse told Carlson.
Rittenhouse’s team successfully argued he acted reasonably in self-defense. They claimed that he was attacked by the three men he shot.
“I tell everybody there what happened. I said I had to do it. I was just attacked. I was dizzy, I was vomiting, I couldn’t breathe," Rittenhouse said.
Rittenhouse also pointed out the potential of prosecutorial misconduct in his case, which the defense for Rittenhouse cited as a reason to declare a mistrial before the acquittal. The trial was never declared a mistrial.
“It’s just amazing to see how much a prosecutor can take advantage of someone,” Rittenhouse said.
During another part of the interview, Rittenhouse claimed that he supports the Black Lives Matter movement and peaceful demonstrations. Rittenhouse also said that he is not a racist and that change is necessary.
A “Tucker Carlson Original” documentary on Fox Nation will also feature Rittenhouse and his defense team. According to the Associated Press, Fox News claims they did not pay the Rittenhouse family for special access. Attorneys for Rittenhouse disapproved of the Fox News team embedded with them throughout the trial.
Two Fox News hosts also resigned Sunday over Carlson’s three-part documentary series, titled “Patriot Purge,” about the Jan. 6 insurrection which aired Nov. 1.
