Kylie Jenner Cornrows Update: Justin Bieber Defends Star, Amandla Stenberg Speaks Out Again

“Hunger Games” star Amandla Stenberg slammed “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Kylie Jenner for misappropriating black culture Sunday, but singer Justin Bieber seemingly defended the reality star. The singer left a comment under Jenner's controversial Instagram picture reminiscent of Chris Crocker's famous 2007 “leave Britney alone” plea.
“Guys leave her alone. We're all trying to figure it out, and she happens to be under a microscope! I’m the first to know this. But saying she’s being racist because she wants her hair in braids is ridiculous,” he wrote. “Let’s focus on the bigger picture, and instead of fighting over something stupid, let’s do something about equality. But it doesn’t start here blasting a 17-year-old kid for wearing braids.”

Jenner, 17, has not responded to Stenberg’s post, and she has not taken down the cornrows picture. The photo has garnered 1.3 million likes and more than 131,000 comments.

It should be noted that her hair may be in cornrows because she’s been sporting a light blue wig this week. The caption for the photo reads, “I woke up like dis,” which would probably be true if she had worn the wig the night before. However, some Instagram users wrote that she originally captioned the photo, “White girls do it better,” which is arguably what caused the controversy.
"Black features are beautiful. Black women are not. White women are paragons of virtue and desire. Black women are objects of fetishism and brutality,” part of Stenberg's post read. She spoke out again on Monday.
End the "angry black girl" narrative. It's just another attempt to undermine certain perspectives. I have strong opinions. I am not angry.

Jenner hasn’t issued a direct response. Instead, she posted a cryptic Instagram photo. “I'm smiling on the inside, I swear,” she captioned her most recent selfie Monday. She also promoted her Pac Sun clothing line, which she created with her sister, Kendall.
