The Kyoto Animation production committee has postponed the release of the "Violet Evergarden The Movie", a film sequel to the Violet Evergarden series, due to the new government measures that have been implemented in Japan to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.

On April 6th, the production committee announced that the anime film sequel will be postponed yet again. They also stated that the film was almost complete and apologized for postponing it right before the release date.

This is the second time the anime film has been delayed from its initial release date of Jan. 10. Earlier, it was delayed due to the arson attack that took place at Kyoto animations studio on July 18, 2019 and was set to release on April 24. However, it has been postponed once again due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In an official statement released on the Violet Evergarden website, the production committee stated that the "entire staff has worked hard to create this film with extraordinary care" and apologized for the delay.

"After careful consideration of the announcement by the Japanese government on measures to limit the spread of coronavirus in Japan, we have decided to postpone the release of Violet Evergarden The Movie,” the statement read.

The committee also mentioned that the new release date will be announced on the official Violet Evergarden website and their official SNS account as soon as it’s been decided. They also mentioned that all advance ticket sales from the January and April dates will continue to remain valid for the upcoming release of the anime and are hopeful everyone enjoys the Kyoto-animation production movie when it gets released.

The franchise had previously released a separate side story titled "Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll ( Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidō Shuki Ningyō)" in September last year. It was released in Japanese theaters and was screened for at least five weeks. The film grossed a total of 641,980,500 yen (approximately $5.98 million) following its launch. It was also made available on Netflix from April 2, 2020. Meanwhile, The Violet Evergarden series and specials that had been released are also available for streaming on Netflix.
