La Liga: Barcelona Midfielder Finds Revitalized Role Under Quique Setien
KEY POINTS
- Arturo Vidal has found himself under transfer rumors during his stint with Barcelona
- Real Madrid was able to overtake Barcelona in the La Liga standings
- Quique Setien expects Vidal to step up during the remaining games of the La Liga season
The roster of Barcelona is considered deep with a mix of veterans and high-performing players. But for players such as Arturo Vidal, his part in the team has fluctuated into several roles.
While stars like Lionel Messi and Marc-Andre ter Stegen remain consistent for the squad, the need to provide additional support is pivotal for Barca’s development.
With the La Liga resuming their games, expectations are high for Barcelona to deliver and make sure that they perform well in every given opportunity. For Vidal’s case, he hasn’t had the smoothest time with Barcelona in the past few years.
Per Everything Barca, the veteran player was seen as an unwanted asset for the club. There were reports earlier this year that Vidal was part of the transfer negotiations in a move for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.
But recent developments show otherwise as Quique Setien fielded the 33-year-old in their recent match against Sevilla. The bout ended in a 0-0 draw that gave Real Madrid the chance to take advantage of the situation and take the top spot in La Liga. With the standings closely contested, Los Blancos was able to overtake Barcelona with a 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad.
Despite the situation, Barca is ready to bounce back with top players such as Messi leading the way. With Vidal’s revitalized role, the Camp Nou based squad is looking to reclaim their top spot in the team standings.
There’s no question that Vidal is one of the more noteworthy players in the club. During his stint with Juventus, he tallied 171 appearances and scored 48 goals to go along with 25 assists. While his contract with Barcelona is only until June of 2021, the two-time Copa America winner is expected to make the most of his time with the club. In 87 appearances with his current team, he’s also scored on 10 separate occasions and added 10 assists.
It will be interesting to see how Barcelona moves forward with their roster and if they will be able to bounce back in their recent setback in the team standings. They are currently tied with Real Madrid with 65 points and it will be expected that both big organizations will battle it out until the end.
