The past few months have been a dark time for the world with the onset of the global pandemic. With this, everyone, even top stars of Sevilla’s football club, should follow following social distancing guidelines.
Players such as Lucas Ocampos, Franco Vasquez, Luuk de Jong and Ever Banega were among those who broke quarantine to join in a festive party. It was a gathering of family and friends posted on social media by Banega’s wife. The photos have circulated on social media before they were deleted.
Per Goal.com, these players have already issued their apologies for the risk and bad example that their party has made. This is in violation of what the government has rolled out that only a maximum of 10 people can come together in social gatherings.
Upon breaking protocol, the players were met with immediate regret on social media. Ocampos shared that they did not show a good image for the club they represent.
“I want to ask for forgiveness and I recognize that we’ve made a mistake, damaging the image of the club,” Ocampos said.
“For this we can only apologize to the club, all our teammates, the technical staff and society in general. We guarantee that we’ve learned our lesson and won’t repeat these actions,” Ocampos added.
The other players involved also chipped in on how sorry they felt for being irresponsible about the issue.
“I want to apologize for what happened yesterday,” Banega said.
“It was a gathering of family and friends, but unconsciously we were not correct. For this we want to ask forgiveness from our club, our fans and from society in general. It won’t happen again. All we want is to return to playing as soon as possible,” Banega shared.
For Vasquez, he recognizes that they have made a mistake and is filled with remorse.
“With respect to what happened yesterday, we recognize that it was a mistake and we want to apologize. We’ve let down everyone: teammates, coaching staff, the club and La Liga, but we’ve learned our lesson. We won’t do it again and we hope football can return soon,” Vasquez said.
To ensure that they have realized their mistakes, De Jong spoke up and shared that the incident will not happen again.
“I would like to say sorry to everyone that was offended due to what occurred yesterday, which will not be repeated. We want competition to return. We only wish to come back and play,” De Jong said.
The games are currently have been suspended since March but the world is appearing to bounce back as games are looking to resume on June 8 with tight lockdown restrictions.
