Lady Gaga Says She Was Sexually Abused At 19; Denies Kesha's Lawyer's Claim That Dr. Luke Is Abuser
Lady Gaga was sexually assaulted by a man 20 years older than her when she was 19, the singer revealed during an interview with Howard Stern on Tuesday. The 28-year-old said that she has gone through several mental, physical and emotional therapies to cope with the incident over the years.
Lady Gaga spoke about the incident that took place nearly a decade ago after Stern asked about her inspiration for the song “Swine.” The singer reportedly said that the “song is about rape,” adding that it is about “rage and fury and passion and I had a lot of pain that I wanted to release.” Lady Gaga also said that the man was a music producer and that he used to publicly claim that the two were dating, according to The Washington Post. However, she did not reveal his identity on the show.
“I went through some horrific things that I’m able to laugh [at] now, because I’ve gone through a lot of mental and physical therapy and emotional therapy to heal over the years, my music has been wonderful for me,” Lady Gaga reportedly said.
Stern reportedly asked Lady Gaga if she had ever confronted the man, and the singer said that she was terrified of doing it as “it would paralyze me.
“I saw him one time in a store and I was so paralyzed by fear. Because it wasn't until I was a little bit older that I went, 'Wow, that was really messed up,'” she reportedly said.
The singer also told Stern that she did not speak out about the incident earlier as she was not willing to admit that anything had ever happened.
“It happens every day and it’s really scary and it’s sad. It didn’t affect me as much right after as it did about four or five years later,” Lady Gaga reportedly said. “It hit me so hard. I was so traumatized by it that I was like ‘just keep going’ because I just had to get out of there.”
Meanwhile, hours after the "Applause" singer made the revelation, singer Kesha's lawyer, Mark Geragos, wrote on his Twitter account that Lady Gaga was abused by Dr. Luke. The record producer, who was born Lukasz Gottwald, has been accused of sexually and verbally abusing Kesha.
"Mark Geragos' statement is completely false and defamatory," a representative for Dr. Luke said, according to E! News. "Luke met Lady Gaga twice for less than half an hour total in those two meetings combined. He has never been alone with her and never touched her. Neither meeting was in that time frame reported."
Lady Gaga's representative also denied the claims, according to E! News, stating: "This ridiculous, manufactured link between Lady Gaga and the Kesha-Dr. Luke lawsuit is utterly incomprehensible. This simply isn't true and how dare someone take advantage of such a sensitive matter."
