Lady Gaga sells over 1 million albums in first week
Lady Gaga's second full-length album sold 1.11 million copies in its first week, making Born This Way the biggest selling album since 50 Cent's The Massacre which sold 1.14 million copies in its first week in 2005.
The album was released on May 23 to great critical acclaim but it was Amazon's 99-cent promotion which gave the album its edge. Amazon sold over 440,000 digital copies of the album for just 99 cents, while iTunes and other retailers sold the album for as much as $14.99. The Amazon promotion helped Born This Way beat out Taylor Swift's Speak Now for most successful album of 2011. Speak Now sold 1.01 million copies in its firtst week last November.
According to Nielson SoundScan, since it began recording record sales in 1991, only 17 albums have sold over a million copies in their first week. Boyband 'N Sync holds the record for first-week sales with their album No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4 million copies.
In light of the success of Born This Way here are some of Lady Gaga's most recent high-fashion moments.
