Lady Gaga Slammed By Demi Lovato For Glamorizing Addiction After Vomiting Stunt At South By Southwest [VIDEO]

Actress-singer Demi Lovato slammed Lady Gaga, saying she believes that the singer was “glamorizing eating disorders,” with the puking stunt at her performance at the South By Southwest festival performance Thursday.

Lovato, who herself had bulimia in the past, felt that Gaga’s performance of her song “Swine,” during which performance artist Millie Brown vomited on her chest, was, in effect, a glorification of bulimia.

“Sad ... As if we didn't have enough people glamorizing eat disorders already. "Bottom line, it's not 'cool' or 'artsy' at all,” the “Neon Lights” singer wrote on her Twitter account Friday.

In another tweet she wrote: “Would you let someone bring a needle and shoot up on you? Addiction is addiction.”

After some of Gaga’s fans criticized Lovato, she wrote on her Twitter account: “It's not 'shade' and it's not 'hate.' But someone has to come forward and say it and I'll take the heat for it.” She added that just putting the word “ART” does not provide one with a “free card” to do anything without facing consequences.

She went on to explain that artists in pop culture are taken as role models and their actions may influence the thinking and behavior of people who look up to them.

“I've been through a shit ton ... More than any of you know, and I sympathize for everyone's struggle. But people emulate what they see celebrities do or let happen. And that's why I had to say something ... to let the people who don't understand the art in it, that bulimia isn't cool, and it won't get you on stage with your favorite artist,” she wrote.

“I can't NOT say anything because I stand up for what I believe in and speak out about mental illnesses. You're right, nobody asked my opinion but pop culture is a huge part in leading our generation, we have to continue to strive to change the world. No hate, no shade, just love,” Lovato concluded.

Gaga reportedly explained the controversial act during a speech at SXSW Friday saying that she knew Brown for almost five years and as she was in town, they decided to collaborate, as they had before.

"It was just exciting to see people talk about performance art on the Internet. We really just did it because we believe in the performance and we believe in what it meant to the song."
