Lady Gaga Will Make Acting Debut In Robert Rodriguez's 'Machete Kills,' Joining Charlie Sheen, Alexa Vega And Mel Gibson
Director Robert Rodriguez tweeted a confirmation Thursday that pop superstar Lady Gaga will be appearing in his coming film, "Machete Kills." "I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills, she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown Away!" She's joining a cast that also includes Charlie Sheen, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega and Mel Gibson.
The movie is the follow up to 2010's "Machete," which is about an Mexican ex-Federale going on a campaign of revenge against his former boss. Danny Trejo will return in the second movie as the ex-Federale who is hired to stop a terrorist. Lady Gaga will appear as a character as La Chameleon, according to the picture Rodriguez tweeted.
The cast looks to have been assembled from tabloid headlines. Charlie Sheen will play the president of the United States and Mel Gibson will co-star as Luther Voz, an arms dealer who's planning on launching a nuclear missile attack, reports Bloody Disgusting, a horror movie website. Alexa Vega, the former star of "Spy Kids," will play a character named "Kill Joy."
Lady Gaga retweeted Rodriguez's tweet to her 28 million followers and followed it with one of her own that read, "Yes its true, I will be making my debut as an actress in the amazing MACHETE KILLS BY @RODRIGUEZ IM SO EXCITED!! AH! Filming was insane." It's unclear what role La Chameleon will have in the movie, although the gun Lady Gaga is holding in the photo along with the wolf wrapped around her sultry pose give fans a few clues as to what type of character it will be.
Rodriguez tweeted on June 10 that principal photography was beginning. There's no word yet on when the movie will be released, but an early estimate from MTV speculates it won't be until sometime in 2013.
The first "Machete" was praised by fans as a violent but silly movie that earned a 73 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
"Machete is a messy, violent, shallow, and tasteless - and that's precisely the point of one of the summer's most cartoonishly enjoyable films," Rotten Tomatoes wrote.
Based on early reports, that could describe the sequel as well, although with this cast, the box office will probably be much higher than $26.6 million.
