- The series received a nomination at Eisner Awards
- Blake Lively will portray a secret well-trained killer
Blake Lively is all set to star in Netflix's adaptation of "Lady Killer," which is based on the Dark Horse comic series.
The 33-year-old actress will not only star but also produce the movie. Diablo Cody serves as a screenwriter, who has previously worked on "Young Adult," "Juno," and "Tully." "Lady Killer" comic is originally penned by Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich, and the illustrations are designed by Jones and colored by Laura Allred, Deadline reported.
Dark Horse Comics published the comic series in 2015, and they have received great appreciation for their work. In fact, the series was nominated for Best Limited Series in 2016 at Eisner Awards.
In the movie, Lively will portray the role of Josie Schuller, a perfect 1950s housewife who lives a secret life as a well-trained killer. While Schuller is fond of her work as a killer, her family has no clue about it.
The movie will be produced by Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg along with B for Effort company's Kate Vorhoff. The writer of the comic series opened up about the background of the story and why it is set in the 1950s.
"For me the time period was super-important because I wanted it to be a black comedy, and to me, nothing makes me laugh harder than contradictions," Jones told Syfy Wire in 2018. "And especially, the whole book is based on a visual joke, and so there would be no book without that time period."
"It was coming out just as Mad Men ended and people kept making a similarity between the two, and I was fine with it…" Jones added. "If I had to modernize it, I just wouldn't do it."
This is not the first time Netflix is collaborating with Dark Horse Entertainment. Previously, the streaming giant has worked on "Umbrella Academy" and "Polar" with the production company.
Lively was last seen in the action-thriller movie, "The Rhythm Section," which released on Jan. 27, 2020. She was also nominated for the Best Actress in an Action Movie at Critics' Choice Super Awards.
