  • A lady Uber driver had a horrifying experience with one of her customers
  • He tried to abduct her at knifepoint
  • She jumped out of the vehicle at 60mph to escape

A female Uber driver foiled a terrifying attempted abduction when she jumped out of her car as it cruised along the highway at 60mph. Carolina Vargas, a 26-year-old Nashville-based Uber driver, told News Channel 5 that her passenger in the back seat allegedly pulled his knife and threatened her.

An Ordinary Day

In an interview, Vargas said that she first met the alleged wrongdoer, later identified as Christopher Miller, on May 5, Tuesday. According to her, Miller ordered a ride, claiming that his semi-truck had broken down. The Uber driver dropped off Miller at a Cleveland hotel in Tennessee, outside Chattanooga, a few miles near the border of the state of Georgia.

As most drivers often do to secure extra earnings, she agreed to pick him up and drive him again to his truck Friday in Nashville. Vargas did just that, only this time, they both did not bother using the Uber app.

Sudden Turn Of Events

As soon as they were on the road, Miller allegedly pulled out his knife, hit the female Uber driver in the ribs, and forced her to drive to Georgia. Vargas, fearing for her life, jumped out of her car onto the highway to escape the harrowing situation. According to the Uber driver, her Ford Explorer was speeding along the road at a speed of around 60 mph at the time. Vargas sustained injuries from that jump, and her legs were also run over by the Explorer’s rear tire.

Vargas considered it a miracle she did not suffer any broken bones, but her body did suffer some serious injuries. She is also missing a couple of teeth. In an interview over News Channel 5, Vargas said: “I didn't do anything to trigger him.” She claimed Miller just pointed a knife to her side and said that she has to do everything he says.

Ride-Sharing App

The female Uber driver provided the police a photo of Miller as she said she would often take photos of her trips along with her passengers. Authorities were also able to get some information about the alleged perpetrator from the Cleveland hotel. Although Miller was able to flee the crime scene, police were able to track his phone at a hotel in Jacksonville, Florida. It was reported that Miller was found with several weapons on him.

A representative of Uber, in a statement given to News Channel 5, said that their ride-sharing app was not being used by Vargas at the time. This means it cannot be classified as an Uber trip. The statement also mentioned that it was against their community guidelines to get in touch with a customer without using their app.
