Lakers Could Make Move For Dennis Schroder Anew With Kyrie Irving Trade Dissipating
KEY POINTS
- The Lakers reuniting with Dennis Schroder is reportedly an option
- Schroder could help the Lakers in their production on the floor
- Other prolific players are also up for consideration
With the reported pursuit of the Los Angeles Lakers on Kyrie Irving growing dimmer, the franchise will need to move on and find other candidates to add to the roster.
With Kevin Durant staying in Brooklyn, the likely scenario is seeing the 30-year-old All-Star guard staying there–at least for one more NBA season.
Hence, the Lakers are expected to check out other options.
Buddy Hield has been mentioned as a target, someone who can relieve LeBron James and Anthony Davis of some scoring load.
However, there is a familiar name suggested as a possible target by the Lakers–Dennis Schroder.
Currently an unsigned free agent, the 28-year-old German player split last season with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets.
The 17th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft normed 13.5 points and shot 43.1% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc last season, making someone who could add more outside shooting needs of Los Angeles.
In the eyes of Marc Stein, Schroder is a legit consideration for the Lakers per sources.
However, this will also depend on how the Los Angeles roster evolves moving forward.
The 6-foot-1 guard played for the Lakers during the 2020-21 season.
At the time, Schroder averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 32.1 minutes of action.
One of the main issues that the German had before was the money on the table.
It was something that was not given to him the last time he was in Hollywood, and his remarks and actions were not exactly taken well by several personalities.
Hence, possibly getting him back may depend on new head coach Darvin Ham.
Schroder could be an alternative for the Lakers, especially if Russell Westbrook fails to play at par for the 2022-23 season.
Moreover, Schroder could be a ball-dominant player who could co-exist with James.
For now, he is an option but moving beyond that remains to be seen.
As far as Hield, it will be interesting if the Lakers also try to advance talks with the Indiana Pacers.
Myles Turner was mentioned as being included in that package although the Lakers are unlikely to include their future first-round picks–something they said was only reserved for a high-profile player such as Irving.
