Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso has set the record straight on the alleged special treatment of LeBron James inside the Orlando bubble. With some players voicing out their concerns regarding their respective accommodations at Disney World, Caruso insisted that all are being served equally as he dismissed talks claiming that James is given superior benefits by the NBA ahead of the restart.
“I mean, (LeBron’s) right down the hallway. He’s like… he’s on the other side of the elevators. There’s like half our team over here, half our team’s over there. I don’t think… if he is, it’s not that much different,” the 26-year-old guard said as he appeared on Complex Sports’ Load Management podcast.
The said allegations went as far as claiming that James is provided with all the luxury at a presidential suite. But as far a Caruso’s knowledge is concerned, no one from Lakers is served with such a high-end chamber.
“I don’t think we have any presidential suite. I walked down the hallway and there’s no sign on the door that says presidential suite, so if he is, they’re doing a good job of covering it,” said the former undrafted guard out of Texas A $ M.
But if James was indeed provided with a presidential suite, Caruso said he would not have any issues with it as he stressed that the subject of hotel accommodation should not be a big deal among players in the bubble.
“I mean, I would like to have it myself because why not? But I’m not gonna complain so they take it away from him. I don’t know, that seems kinda childish. At the end of the day, we’re all living in a hotel. If you got a little more space than somebody, congrats.”
The controversy was apparently sparked by Houston Rockets’ guard Austin Rivers, who, via a playful Instagram live post, claimed that James isn’t “staying where we’re staying at."
There may be questions about treatment disparity from the league, but Caruso, James, and the rest of the Lakers could not care any less. After all, they aim to be on the same page as they begin their championship bid against the Clippers on Thursday as the NBA restart kicks off in Florida.
